At TESU, we seek provide students with affordable, robust educational materials. Whenever possible, we encourage Subject Matter Experts to review Open Educational Resources to bring diverse voices and materials into the course without taxing a student's course material budget.
Zero cost textbooks are defined as costing zero dollars for students. This can include using OER resources or providing other web links to support student learning. We can include videos from YouTube, textbooks from OER publishers like Pressbooks and OpenStax, and openly-licensed images from the Creative Commons. Review the Creative Commons License Types tab for information about the types of Creative Common licenses available.
Low Cost Textbooks
At TESU, we consider textbooks under fifty dollars to be a low-cost textbook. While there are merits to learning materials being free, we have also found that publishers create ebooks supplemented with engaging and interactive content that would be extremely costly to build and maintain in-house. These resources can often be accessed by students for under fifty dollars. Please consult with the Learning Technology team for a demo of some of the low-cost publisher integrations we have recently completed.
